And we DID record the cutting of Mom's cake and it tastes GREAT! :)
I think the next one i do will be a circle cake. Good Times Good Times...

A Day for Mom...

Let's go ahead and say it...one day is NOT enough to celebrate our Mom's. The memories of grace and kindness and patience and love come from my Mom. She is the BEST woman I know. She has taught me to enjoy my journey...good bad or ugly, the journey is ALWAYS the best part. Well in honor of my Mom...and all the Mom's out there...I present....
Mom's Cake....
Chocolate cake with Cream cheese icing in the layers and chocolate icing as the crumb coat. AND THEN...chocolate fondant and modeling chocolate butterflies to decorate and cover the flaws. LOL. Hope it tastes as good as I think it looks. :) My modest opinion.

The Suzy Q Cake

Or so it is going to be named. The cake was a hit with the Relief Society sisters. It tasted great which made me very happy!
Ok here is the photographic journey.
This cake venture started with 4 boxes of Cake Mix and 16 eggs...yep you read that right...SIXTEEN!
Mixed it all up and threw them in the oven. They turned out beautifully...

Next came trimming the top to make it flat, the crumb coat and then trimming the sides...

Next came the chocolate fondant and decorating. Ahhhh the FUN PART!

LOL my piping leaves something to be desired. And the first CNF bumper sticker I put on only had half the chocolate piping...but nobody noticed. But I had to include a picture of the 'bad side'.  The chocolate looking pieces  are  Chocolate Plastic. VERY easy to make and super tasty!!! And only 2 ingredients...chocolate chips and corn syrup.:)

And then it was off to The Relief Society Birthday dinner...where it was CONSUMED! I was very happy that everyone loved the cake AND they even ate the FONDANT!! Hooray!!! Fondant cake #2 is a success!

Pics will come when I am done. I am photographing as I go. But to give you a little something to read...here is the recipe for densing up mix cakes...

Next Cake....

The Relief Society asked me to make the Cake for the Birthday dinner!!! Hooray! I have decided to do 2 9X13 cakes and stack them on one another. The top one will be Yellow Cake and the bottom layer will be Chocolate Cake. I am debating the fillings still...I am thinking of some sort of berry sauce...and then of COURSE buttercream icing to cover. And I am trying something a little different this time. CHOCOLATE fondant. It is also know as chocolate plastic. I found this CUTE logo for the Charity Never Faileth...I plan on putting these on the side of the cake. Then do the cake in the chocolate fondant with blue and yellow circles. Wish me luck! I will post pics as I go. :) I am making the choco fondant tonight...

The Verdict....

The Mini was a HIT! It was moist and delicious and the fondant actually tasted great!

The Swangers enjoyed it and I loved sharing it. We didn't take the rest of the cake home. There wasn't much left but I knew if I brought it home we would eat it. So the rest of the Mini was sacrificed for the greater good. :) I don't have any pics of when we cut it. I wish I had taken some. The layers looked nice. Next cake I will take pics of the final eating party. :)

Jo asked me if I could do birthdaycakes for the girls in February...I think I just might have to practice up on a purse and something else girlie for the birthday! Maybe a princess cake.

Novelty candles may be used.

My First Cake..Fondant and ALL!

Ok so far I am in LOVE with my new hobby. This first one I think I am calling the Mini. It is a cute lil 3 layer stacked cake. Lemon flavored cake with vanilla buttercream icing in the layers and on the crumb coat. For the first run...with no classes...and a great fear of fondant...I think I did pretty well. We are taking it over to the Swangers tonight to share...will let you know how it tases. :)
Enjoy the images...

The imprtance of being straight.....

And LEVEL. So it turns out that my stove is not level. Makes for interestingly shaped cakes. We will see how I can level these with some creative trimming.

Maybe I need one of these

The Fondant Mystery

Before I even thought about trying my hand at decorating cakes I had this total aversion to fondant. A person could have the most BEAUTIFUL cake in the world...and that fondant would STILL be gross. Oh it looked pretty and smooth and delish...but one taste would let you know that your dreams were shattered. Then you did like everyone else and peeled the nastiness off to get to the buttercream...the saving grace of the fondant. I even had my own wedding cake done in ONLY buttercream because of my low opinion.
I knew I would have to face this demon if I was going to take on this challenge/hobby. I searched the internet for fondant recipes that TASTED good and the only one I ran across Marshmallow Fondant. Yep you read right...marshmallow fondant...or as the pros call it...MM Fondant. Here is a visual journey through my first try at making MM Fondant. I think I may have found a fondant that I love...I even tasted it! I was nervous I will be honest..but it was GOOD!!!!!
